In this October edition, let's start with something that companies are looking at to try on an immediate and ad-hoc basis. Generative AI.

Most of the senior executives I speak to right now are either looking to get started with GenAI or have already started POCs for certain use-cases. Talking to them, you realize that the hype around it has only increased over time - is it FOMO or due to actual benefits - it is too early to say that. According to Gartner the foundational models' adoption may take 1 to 3 years and GenAI adoption to take 3 to 6 years, but it might go faster, as companies have already started figuring out their initial use-cases.

But between all these talks, the key thing I've found is that the understanding about GenAI is ambiguous. Some companies (or the key board executives) believe they are very well-educated about it while others still are beginners (check out Alteryx latest survey to know more). Given the complicated nature of algorithms and functionality that goes behind the processing, even data scientists can't be too sure about the output (hallucinations are a real thing!)

Still it is one such technologies that can only be properly judged after you start using it. So why not? Just start with the use-case you need and keep exploring!

What does the research say?

Once the initial hype around GenAI regarding the organizations' concerns about security subsided, that's when they started asking the real question - where can you start?

Organizations have shifted towards use cases to enhance productivity and content generation, as CEOs believe GenAI can have a highest impact over the short term while exploring insights for long-term.
